Reality is One
Every culture has tried to name it.
Tao.
Logos.
Spirit.
Brahman.
Great Mystery.
The Kingdom of Heaven.
Source.
The Field.
Life.
Love.
The names are beautiful.
None of them are large enough.
They are fingers pointing toward the same moon.
Not something separate from us.
The living reality from which everything arises...
and to which everything belongs.
Beneath every apparent division—
self and other,
mind and body,
human and nature,
psyche and cosmos
sacred and ordinary—
there is one living movement.
One unfolding life.
Reality is One.
Imagine a dark room.
A single candle burns in the center.
Place ten people around it.
Each sees the flame from a different angle.
One sees mostly light.
Another notices the warmth.
Another the flickering movement.
Another the wax.
Another the smoke.
Each description is true.
None of them is the flame.
The arguments begin when someone mistakes their view...
for the whole.
The traditions of the world are like that.
Different languages.
Different symbols.
Different ways of describing the same living mystery.
Understanding this changes surprisingly little.
At least...
at first.
Because ideas don't transform lives.
Practice does.
Knowing reality is One...
is not the same as living as though it were.
That is why the practice comes first.
The philosophy simply gives the practice a home.
The purpose of this House is not to convince you that reality is One.
The purpose is to help you live as though it were.
